Fun with IoT (internet of things)
The demo video below shows, on a high level, the core working of an IoT system. My setup consist of a laptop, a cloud server which stands in North Europe and an IoT device next to my laptop. The only way to communicate to and from the IoT device is via the cloud server.
The demo starts of by sending an instruction to the IoT device to switch on its camera. Then another instruction is send to take a picture after which the camera is switched off again. I then log into the cloud server where I can then view and download the captured pic. The response delay is not due to high latency values but due to a 30 sec delay build into the software of the IoT device to check for new messages. The IoT device sends a "happy" message every 30 seconds to the cloud to indicate all is still working fine. Any number and size of messages can be send or received by the IoT device... and that's the beauty of this particular IoT system!
